M5 Connect for Browsers

M5 Connect for Browsers is a browser plug in that allows click to dial from Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Follow the instructions below that correspond to your browser.

Requirements

• Windows XP, Vista, or 7, Linux, Macintosh
• Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher
• There is no version dependency for Google Chrome
• PC with internet access
• M5 Call Conductor Platform (?)

Installing

Internet Explorer

Remove any previous versions of M5 Connect for Browsers. You can uninstall from the IE M5Connect settings or from the "Add / Remove Programs" window in Control Panel.

1. Close all Internet Explorer browsers.
2. Open the Internet Explorer browser.
3. Download the plugin here.
4. An M5 Settings Page will appear after the download is complete.
5. Log in with your 10-digit DID and voicemail password.
   • Your phone number should be entered without any special characters (e.g.).
6. Select "OK".
7. Select the browser plug in from the command bar. (Figure 1)
   • If you do not see your command bar, select View>Toolbars>Command Bar. (Figure 2)
8. Browse to www.google.com within Internet Explorer and search for "nyc pizza". You will see a list of pizza estabishments and their telephone numbers which will be highlighted. Clicking on the "M5" icon will dial the highlighted number from your M5 phone.

Firefox

Remove any previous versions of M5 Connect for Browsers. You can uninstall from the M5Connect settings or from the "Add / Remove Programs" window in Control Panel.

1. Close all open FireFox browser windows.
2. Open a new FireFox browser
3. Download the plug-in here.
4. Unzip the plugin, so you have the “M5 Connect FireFox Setup.xpi” plug-in file.
5. Drag and drop the .xpi plug-in file into the FireFox browser window.
6. Hit "Install Now" on the pop up that appears.
7. Hit "Restart Now" at the installation screen.
8. An M5 icon will appear in the top right hand corner. Click it and enter your 10-digit DID and voicemail password. Your phone number should be entered without any special characters (e.g. 6462305000)
9. Hit "OK"
10. Browse to www.google.com within Firefox and search for "nyc pizza". You will see a list of pizza estabishments and their telephone numbers which will be highlighted. Clicking on the "M5" icon will dial the highlighted number from your M5 phone.

Google Chrome

Remove any previous versions of M5 Connect for Browsers. You can uninstall from the Google Chrome Settings, in the Extensions subsection, by clicking "Remove" on M5 Connect for Chrome.

1. Close all Chrome browsers
2. Open the Chrome browser
3. Download the plug-in here
4. Unzip the plugin, so you have M5ConnectChromeSetup_v0.7.crx
5. Drag and drop the .crx plug-in file into the Chrome browser window. Hit "Continue" at the message that appears at the bottom of the window, the "Add" at the installation screen.
6. An M5 icon will appear to the right of the address bar, next to the wrench icon. Click it and enter your 10-digit DID and voicemail password.
7. Your phone number should be entered without any special characters (e.g.)
8. Select "Save"

Browse to www.google.com within Chrome and search for "nyc pizza". You will see a list of pizza establishments and their telephone numbers which will be highlighted. Clicking on the "M5" icon will dial the highlighted number from your M5 phone.

Helpful Information

• The Click to Dial plug-in doesn't interfere with page loading; it processes the data once it's in the window. You will see the data populate in the window and the telephone numbers will be highlighted seconds later.
• International Numbers will not have M5 icon to click to dial; You can highlight the number and right-click to select the Click to Dial option.
• To place calls using the "Block Caller ID' function, right-click on the M5 Icon.
• Click to Dial Excel - Saving Excel documents as a Webpage and publishing them to your browser will allow you to use M5 Connect for Browsers in conjunction with a spreadsheet.
  1. Save Excel document as Web Page.
  2. Click the "Publish" button.
  3. Check the check box for "Open published web page in browser.
  4. Click the "Publish" button.
  5. You can now click-to-dial any ten digit number in the published excel file.

FAQ

Q: All 10-digit numbers are highlighted as a phone number. Is there a way to keep that from happening?

A: M5Connect for Browsers is designed to work with any web page. Since all web pages are different, it highlights any 10-digit number it sees as a phone number.

To disable automatic number highlighting feature (Figure 1).

1. Open Settings.
2. Uncheck the "Enable number highlighting" check box.
3. Click OK.

Once disabled, the phone number can be highlighted by selecting the text and then right-clicking to dial the number (Figure 2).

Q: Clicking the M5 icon prompts the message I get “Authorization or Authentication failed.” (For IE browsers)

A: This error means you are not logged in to the application with your phone number and password. To log in, select the adapter from the command bar in your browser and select the M5 Connect icon. If you do not see your command bar, select View>Toolbars>Command Bar. Log in with your phone number and voicemail password.
